A Little Bit about Me...

We interrupt this program to make an announcement...

As many of you know who follow my blog, I hardly ever post anything personal about me. I'm not much of a public persona, and my blog is strictly book reviews, with an occasional "fun" post. But today I have such thrilling news, I couldn't resist posting so that I can share my news and all my blogger friends can rejoice with me...

I have lost 30 pounds!

Yes, believe it or not, since March 1st, I've lost over 30 pounds by going to Weight Watchers. I've gone down 6 sizes! I'm now a size 6 - a size small! You can't believe how good that feels! I've always had a battle with my weight, especially after giving birth - 15 years ago (how pathetic is that?) I'm a typical yo-yo dieter, my weight is up, then it's down, I've lost and then gained it back, it's been that way for years. Well, (and I've said it before, but I really mean it this time) - I am commited to keeping the weight off! I've been going to the gym and working out, but not like a crazy person, I need to go more often. I still have another 10 lbs. to go to make my goal and I hope to do by the end of the summer when we go to Vegas (DH and me sans the kid), or by the time An Echo in the Bone comes out! LOL!

So without further ado, I'm posting a picture of me, taken last week on my birthday with my big, hairy lug of a dog, Hector. Some of you may have been curious about what I look like, so here I am!

Notice how I still can't show a full view one of me yet? LOL! Someday I will!

For those of you that have been thinking of losing weight, I can highly recommend WW's, it's easy, forgiving and a sensible diet that can be a life change. It's "real" food and I hope to incorporate it into my life forever - it's that good, and no they are not paying me to say this!

Anyway, that's all! Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

You look good and congratz on the loss of weight! As a person who loves food, especially with good company, I struggle with the pounds too. I will look into this WW diet ;D

Enjoy your body, your health and shopping for clothes, that must be a party all on its own!

Julie - I think this post is fantastic on so many levels! It's wonderful that you have been successful in your weight loss, and that is very inspirational to people like me who also have that need. And it's great to get a little peek at the person behind the reviews -- you are a lovely person, and of course, love that furry friend of yours, too! Good luck on reaching your final goal, and I'm envious that you get to go away on vacation with the hubby -- alone! ;)

Blodeuedd - thanks, tell your friend to give WW a try. It's become so easy for me and the online recipes are great, easy and delicious - we've never eaten so well!

Patti - thank you, yes, it's always been a struggle to keep the weight off, but this time I think I'm going to do it! Thanks for the belated birthday wishes - I had a good day, but it seemed to last for 3 - I'm glad it's over! LOL!

Leontine - thanks, and welcome to my blog! I love food too! Luckily on WW, their recipes are so good and delicous - easy as well, it's been a pleasure to eat dinner every night! Yes, I've been buying new clothes and now even the new ones are too big! Luckily, I save everything, so I still have my old "small clothes" from five years ago when I was last this size (like I said, I go up and down, up and down...)

Mandi - thank you!

Joanne - thank you, yes I know what you mean about inspiration. It was another online friend of mine who lost 45 lbs. on WW that got me to do something too! I thought to myself, "hey, if she can do it, I can do it!" She was a big influence and has been a big supporter as I've been going along, it really helped! Yes, I'm so looking forward to this getaway at the end of this month. We were supposed to go in June for our 20th anniversary and two days before we were supposed to leave our son got the Swine Flu! We had to postpone it, but we're going to "pretend" it's our anniverary while out there (btw, we went to New Orleans for our 10th - loved, loved, loved it, stayed at the Winsdor Court). It's very rare we get away by ourselves! Can't wait!

Michelle - thank you so much!

CJ - thank you! And you bet I'm wearing my little size six dresses! This trip has been my inspiration! I was determined to be slim and toned for this trip! I can't wait to go out and wow them at the craps tables! LOL!

Danni - thank you! Out Hector is such a good boy, he's 7 now, and feeling his age a bit, but still lively and such a cuddler. He's spoiled rotten and has no table manners, but we love him no matter what he does!

Congratulations, Julie! You'll have the remaining ten pounds gone before you know it! You look great!

I agree with CJ, it's always nice to get a little personal and get to know the person behind the book!

Congratulations, and I hope you inspire me to lose again as well. I did it once about four years ago and then I broke the gym habit and it crept back up on me (I must blame Gabaldon for some of it, I was soooo wrapped up in those books I put off quite a few gym visits to read).

This time despite getting into the gym I'm not dropping as quick as the last time. Might go look at the weight watchers diet - I've heard other good things about it.

Amy - thanks, you're one of the few people that actually knew already about my progress, I'm still amazed how easy it's been to lose! It's taken me a long time to get used to the idea of posting public stuff about myself on the net - you just never know who's reading it - you know? Baby steps.

Misfit - thank you, definitely give the WW diet a look. I go to the meetings once a week to get weighed, but I don't always stay for the actual meeting, but I definitely recommend using their online tracker and recipes if you try it. It makes it so simple and the recipes alone make it worthwhile. I'm not a gym nut, and I would never go if I didn't have my audiobooks or kindle on my iTouch iPod. So, you see, you can still read Gabaldon at the gym! It's actually quite easy on the elliptical. Good luck, I know better than anyone how easy it is to put the weight back on and take it off again. But, both dieting and the gym have done wonders for me, but I still would like to get rid of that "jiggle" and only the gym will do that - good luck!

Julie-that is so awesome! Congrats! You look beautiful! I sure wish I had your will power. I've got about that much to lose and I haven't started yet.

When I first started blogging I was leary about sharing personal stuff as well. I'm getting a little better now.

Julie at Outlandish Dreaming said...

Thanks Dar! I thought it was such a funny coincidence too that we both posted pictures of ourselves with our dogs today! Hec is so dear to me, such a good boy! I'm still wary of posting too much info about myself, I have another blog at LiveJournal with posts I can lock - I guess I'm a bit paranoid, but hopefully not too much!

Uggggggggggggh, you can tell I'm having one of those days but I was so excited about your weight loss that I forgot to say how gorgeous Hector is!

Julie at Outlandish Dreaming said...

Dar, LOL! Don't worry, I knew instinctively that you, as a dog lover, would automatically think he was gorgeous! LOL! No words necessary! ;)

(although if I must say so myself, he really is gorgeous, this isn't a very good pic of him, as my DH says, he looks really spacy with those weird camera eyes)

Heather D said...

congratulations!! You look great!!

I too have had problems with weight since my first pregnancy. Someone recently asked me where my daughter got her build because she is so little (size 1/2 but she is only 14). I said Hello... I wasn't always fat. Believe it or not she is a spitting image of me!!

Julie at Outlandish Dreaming said...

Heather, yes I can believe it! My son is a total string bean (though I can't say I ever was, but my DH and his brother were). I'm happy to say I'm at my pre-pregnancy weight (the high end of it), but I'm still whittling it down! Thanks!

Congratulations! I've done WW before. I however did not keep up with it. You look great and congratulations. I'm inspired again. I've actually been thinking of doing it again. You Go!!!

Julie at Outlandish Dreaming said...

Beth, thanks, I did WW about 14 years ago and of course, gained the weight back, this time I am determined - I'm just too old now to gain it back again - I simply can't!

Cindy W said...

Julie at Outlandish Dreaming said...

Cindy - thank you! Yes, the best part about Hector's now is how frequently say, "Oh Hec!" He's always getting into something!

EH - thank you! We love our darling golden, Hector, he's a good boy!

JennJ said...

Julie Congratulations hon that is awesome! You look wonderful! And what a beautiful dog! LOL at the Oh Hec that's great!

Julie at Outlandish Dreaming said...

JennJ - thanks! I'm still working on it, trying to whittle off another 10, then I'll be done! Phew! Yeah, that Hector, he's definitely an "Oh Hec!" kind of dog too - I'm afraid we didn't do the best job of training him when he was a pup. A shameless begger!
